A tax foreclosure sale in Pottawatomie county may not have as many properties listed as originally thought…that’s according to County Commission Chair Pat Weixelman, who says the County Counselor was one of the first on Monday’s commission agenda. John Watt says the tax foreclosure will be held later in the Fall, but several people are coming in to pay.
Weixelman also tells KMAN commissioners gave the go ahead on a bridge bid first seen last week. The commission approved the low bid from Ebert Construction for work on the Rockenham Road project, which is primarily being funded by the state. Hopes are to have the project completed by Christmas.
The bridge is located about two miles north of U-S Highway 24. The state is helping with the project with a grant of about $120,000. Ebert’s base bid was just over $137,000.
Pottawatomie County Treasurer Lisa Wright had a special request Monday and county commissioners agreed to her suggestion, for some part time help. Weixelman adds the commission also had an update from the Flint HIlls Metropolitan Planning Organization, with a presentation from Transportation Planner Stephanie Watts.
Commissioners heard from the county’s Silver Haired Legislature’s representative Monday–Ruth Ensley-Kunz talked about issues relating to senior citizens such as Medicare and Medicaid, with plans to present suggestions to the state legislature.
And commissioners also heard about 1.3 million dollars worth of bonds on Wildcat Woods III and Nelson Woods II. Those would be presented at the September 28th meeting to go out for bids at that time.
Commissioners also participated in a retirement reception for Sheriff’s Department I-T Administrator and Communications Tech Dave Lamberson.
After a career with the military and nearly 20 years with the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Department, Dave Lamberson is retiring. Lamberson says he hopes to spend more time with his wife and grandchildren and to travel more.
While a challenge to keep up with all the changes in 9-1-1 and telephone systems, Lamberson says he’s enjoyed working with the public and all the people at the Sheriff’s Department.
Sheriff Greg Riat says it’s been a real pleasure to work with Lamberson over the years–and says he’s been good working with the department and keeping staff and administrators and aware of how important it is to keep on top of things
Tim Herrs has been selected to serve in the position and while Riat expects he’ll do a good job, in the Sheriff’s words, “he has some big shoes to fill.”
