More than $80,000 in damage has been reported from a garage fire late Thursday night on Fairchild Avenue. Manhattan Firefighters were dispatched at 11:00 p.m. to 1831 Fairchild Avenue for the report of a structure fire. Upon arrival, crews found a one-story detached garage with heavy smoke and fire showing from the front of the structure. The fire reached a second alarm before it was contained within 40 minutes. A total of 18 firefighters responded on 6 fire apparatus.

Estimated loss is $30,000 to the structure and $10,000 to contents. There were four other reported exposures that received an estimated loss of $41,000. According to Deputy Fire Chief Ryan Almes, the exposures were the residence at 1831 Fairchild Avenue that suffered heat damage to the exterior; and two passenger vehicles and a motorcycle which are a total loss. The cause of the fire is suspected to be fireworks.
The owner is listed as Carolee Stark of Manhattan. The fire cause is under investigation at this time.
