K-State releases depth chart for 2015 season opener

Kansas State released a two-deep depth chart for the 2015 season Tuesday, shedding light on several position battles for the first time. Head coach Bill Snyder and select players met with the media for over an hour to discuss the starting lineup and the Wildcats’ season opener against South Dakota on Saturday.

A few of the depth chart highlights are as follows:

  • Sophomore QB Jesse Ertz was confirmed as the starting quarterback, with Joe Hubener or Alex Delton listed behind him. Jonathan Banks is expected to redshirt this season.
  • Justin Silmon and Dalvin Warmack are both listed as potential backups to the top running back spot, which is held by senior Charles Jones.
  • On the offensive line, freshman Dalton Risner has claimed the center job. Left guard Boston Stiverson is with the team, but “banged up” according to Snyder. He is listed as a starter, but his availability Saturday is unknown.
  • Redshirt freshman receiver Dominique Heath has earned a starting job. Heath opened eyes with his impressive performance in the Spring Game. He is also K-State’s pick to return punts this season.
  • The tight end position has not been solidified. Cody Small and Dayton Valentine are both listed as possible starters.
  • Glenn Gronkowski and Winston Dimel are both potential starters at the fullback position. Both are expected to see plenty of action in varying roles.
  • After a year away from the team, senior linebacker Charmeachealle Moore is back and has been named a starter, alongside Elijah Lee and Will Davis.
  • At free safety, sophomore Kaleb Prewett gets the nod over Sean Newlan.
  • Senior cornerback Morgan Burns will be alongside Heath on kick returns.

K-State kicks off against South Dakota at 6 p.m. Saturday. Coverage begins with Powercat Gameday at 2:00 on KMAN.
