The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) has issued an Emergency Order of Suspension to a day care home at 816 Church Avenue in Manhattan licensed under the name LoRene Marie Wille Day Care Home.
State law allows the Secretary of KDHE to issue such an order when, in the opinion of the Secretary, the order is necessary to protect children in the home from any potential threat to health or safety. The order is subject to appeal.
The Emergency order indicates that on or about November third the KDHE conducted a survey of the group day care home. Problems listed involved difficulty of the licensee to physically move some of the children, which would mean only one child at a time could be moved in case of an emergency such as a fire. The day of the survey the licensee was caring for three children, three months of age, 20 months of age, and a three year old.
In addition, cleaning supplies were accessible to children and a lawn mower was accessible in the play area–and the licensee did not have a current first aid and CPR certificate on file.
The order is signed by KDHE Secretary Dr. Susan Mosier who coincidentally is from Manhattan.
