The Manhattan High boys basketball team dropped their first game of the season in the semi finals of the Dodge City Tournament of Champions with a 57-53 OT loss to the defending 6A state champs in Wichita East.

The Indians drop to 10-1 overall while the Aces move onto the championship game on Saturday to face Wichita Heights. Manhattan will play Maize for 3rd place.

Manhattan had multiple eight point leads early on but couldn’t pull away any more. Elijah Kelly for the Aces drained a three with under ten seconds left in the fourth quarter to tie the game. Manhattan’s Gabe Awbrey was fouled on a baseline drive with two seconds left but missed both free throws which allowed for the overtime period.

MHS was outscored 9-5 in overtime. The Indians got 14 apiece from Awbrey and Tommy Ekart.
