Manhattan picks up a split on Friday night at the MHS gym as the girls fall but the boys pick up a victory.

The MHS girls had a tough match up with Washburn Rural, losing 45-41. Manhattan trailed by 12 early but battled back in the second half to take a one point lead in the fourth quarter but missed shots and free throws for Rural down the stretch was the difference in the game.

Manhattan was led by Gigi McAtee and Madison Mittie with nine points each. Washburn Rural was led by Carly Bachelor with a game high 16 points.

MHS drops to 11-5 overall, 6-3 in league play. The Indians are two games back in the league race and sit alone in third place.

The MHS boys bounced back after their first league loss at Shawnee Heights with a 61-51 win over the Junior Blues.

Washburn Rural made their first five shots in the game but MHS still led by two at the end of the first quarter. The Indians started the third quarter on a 9-0 and took a solid lead but some late baskets by the Junior Blues kept the game manageable.

The Indians had four in double figures and were led by Christian Carmichael with 15 points. MHS is now 14-2 overall, 8-1 in league play and they hold their one game lead in the league standings.

Manhattan travels to Topeka High on Tuesday night.
