MHS sweeps Seaman to close regular season

The Manhattan High boys basketball team rallied in the second half to knock off the Seaman Vikings 66-56 on Friday night.

They finish the regular season at 17-3, they earn the Centennial League title outright with the win and they clinched the #1 seed in next week’s Sub State playoffs.

Manhattan trailed by six at the half but rallied to take a one point lead into the fourth quarter. Defense and free throws a big key for MHS to hold on for the win. Three in double figures led by 14 points from Trevor Hudgins, 11 from Grant Munsen and 10 from Tommy Ekart.

The MHS girls had to hold off a furious rally from the Lady Vikings but held on for the win 49-42. Manhattan led 30-15 at the half but an 18-2 third quarter from the Lady Vikings gave them a lead going into the fourth quarter but MHS would outscore Seaman 17-9 in the final quarter. Gigi McAtee led MHS with 13 points.

The girls finish the season at 13-7 overall and a coin flip will determine whether they land the 3-seed or 4-seed in next week’s Sub State with Lawrence Free State finishing the season with an identical record.

The girls will host either Topeka High or Wichita East on Wednesday night. The boys will host Washburn Rural on Thursday night in a rematch of last year’s Sub State semi final.
