Aaron Estabrook, the Vice-President of the Manhattan-Ogden Board of Education, today announced that he is running for State Board of Education as an Independent in Kansas’ 6thDistrict. “Partisan belligerence must be blocked at the school house door. Kansas schools need a trusted leader who will continue to champion public education with a proven record of standing up to Governor Brownback. Special interest money has further corrupted our democracy. I’m running to represent the people of the 6th District, not the special interests that keep today’s career politicians in office.”
Estabrook cited his combat experience in Afghanistan as a reason for his deep commitment to schools, “Public Education is necessary to ensure the health of our democracy, every student must learn and experience the fundamental ideas, principles and values of our nation to graduate ready for the responsibilities of citizenship” he said. “We need a leader that will be a strong voice for our district, who will protect rural schools and set aside ideology for the greater cause of the common good.”
Estabrook is a father, post-9/11 combat veteran, husband, and business owner. He is a sixth-generation Kansan from western Kansas. Estabrook is a graduate of Dodge City High School, has a BS from Kansas State University and certificate of International Mediation and Conflict Resolution from the George Washington University Elliot School of International Affairs. Estabrook and his wife, Kimberly, a Registered Nurse, returned to settle in Manhattan, after his tour of duty in Afghanistan, to raise their daughters.
