A Westmoreland man, named Alvin Matzke, told KMAN he’s decided to run for Pottawatomie County Commissioner after settling down and retiring from farming.
Although Matzke says his intentions were at one point lighthearted, he says he feels like local government officials will need to make up for what is to come after the presidential election coming soon.
When asked about his qualifications, he indicated his blue-collar experience has led him to want to drive local change.Matzke told KMAN says one of his biggest platforms is cutting local spending in many areas, explaining that he believes government spending can be greatly reduced.

Matzke filed just a day before the filing deadline which was Wednesday at noon.
