An early morning crash on Highway 24 claimed the life of four people Thursday, including three kids and one adult.
The Kansas Highway Patrol responded to an accident that occurred east of Silver Lake, shortly after 7 a.m.
A white, 1999 Subaru Impreza was traveling westbound on Highway 24 between Hodges and Humphrey Roads in Shawnee County when it left the roadway and dropped off the north shoulder. The vehicle over corrected and was hit in the passenger side by a gray, 2007 Pontiac Vibe.
The driver of the Impreza, Devin Greeve of Topeka, died in the accident along with his passengers Gabby Greeve and Tyler Crouse, also of Topeka. Devin was a senior at Silver Lake High School, Gabby was a 6th grader at Silver Lake Elementary and Crouse also attended SLHS. He was a freshman.
The driver of the Pontiac Vibe, Lance Lenard, 47, of Rossville, also died in the accident.
His passenger, 13-year-old Kade Lenard, also of Rossville, was the lone survivor and he’s currently in stable condition at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka.
According to the KHP, the highway was closed until noon on Thursday while an investigation was conducted.
