WICHITA – – Prosecutors have added firearms charges against two of the Kansas men accused of plotting to bomb an apartment complex where Somali immigrants live in the meatpacking town of Garden City.
The superseding indictment filed Thursday in U.S. District Court again charges Patrick Stein, Gavin Wright, and Curtis Allen with conspiring to use a weapon of mass destruction. Wright was formerly of Manhattan.Kari Schmidt, who represents Wright, says her client has no criminal history and is not prohibited from possessing firearms.
The new indictment also charges Allen with illegally possessing firearms because of a misdemeanor domestic battery conviction. It adds two counts against Stein alleging gun violations in connection with the bomb conspiracy. It also seeks forfeiture of the weapons.
Attorneys for Allen and Stein did not immediately respond to an email seeking comment.

WICHITA — One of three Kansas men accused of plotting to bomb an apartment complex where Somali immigrants live is asking for a court-ordered mental health evaluation.
KWCH-TV reports that Patrick Stein’s attorneys made the request in a filing Friday in federal court in Wichita, believing the evaluation is needed as part of 47-year-old Stein’s defense.
Prosecutors say Stein, 51-year-old Gavin Wright — formerly of Manhattan — and 49-year-old Curtis Allen were part of a militia group.
They’re accused of conspiring to detonate truck bombs at an apartment complex where 120 Somali immigrants live in Garden City. One of the units was used as a mosque.
All three men have pleaded not guilty and are scheduled to go on trial next April.
