Riley County Clerk Rich Vargo informed county commissioners Monday morning 1,615 people have cast advance ballots leading up to Tuesday’s cities and schools general election.
“That is an increase over two years ago, which is a good sign,” Vargo said.
Three Manhattan city commission seats are on the ballot, along with three school board seats for USD 383. The City of Manhattan is also asking citizens to renew a “Quality of Life” parks and recreation sales tax set to expire on Jan. 1, 2018.
Junction City is asking its citizens to pass a bond for a new high school. The Rock Creek and Blue Valley-Randolph school districts also have bond questions on those ballots.
“I encourage people to go to the Riley County website, pull up a sample ballot and you can read that question there, rather than going to the polls and taking as long to vote if you’re more familiar with the question,” Vargo said. “Because some of those questions, due to the legalese, are very long. So, I encourage people to go out there and get familiar with those.”
