The Riley County website will have a new look and feel next week.

IT/GIS Director Kevin Howser presented the look of the new website to county commissioners on Thursday.  He said the reason for the new update is to keep up with modern programming languages, current optimization , and to meet the latest ADA Accessible Design standards. Howser said Civics Plus of Manhattan designed the new website that will be available Thursday February 22.

Assistant Director Dawn Shoffner showed off a demo to the county commissioners which included a new drop down menu on the home page.  Shoffer said they determined what items will be on the home page by looking at the statistics of traffic on the current site.

Howser said the website will still contain the previous items from the current site and just update the looking to comply with the mentioned optimizations.  The commissioners approved the design unanimously.

Also during the meeting, RCPD Director Brad Schoen gave an update on the shooting range for the department in Fort Riley.  Schoen they have run into a few issues that will need to be revisited next week.  The most notable issue is in relation to other ranges near the new one, meaning they might have to rotate the use of each range.

Schoen also said they might have to move the date to sometime in 2019, which will affect the department’s training schedule.

Schoen also talked about an influx of patrol officers around town on Wednesdays, stating they have a new patrol schedule giving a overlap day with more officers.
