The Manhattan-Ogden USD 383 Board of Education approved the publication for the 2018-19 budget during their meeting Wednesday.
Business Services Director Lew Faust said the total mill levy will be 56.140 mills, which is a .0128 decrease from last year’s budget. A mill is $1 in tax for every $1,000 in assessed, taxable property value. He also told the board they will remain flat this year.
“We’re essentially doing the same things, we’re not shortening ourselves, we’re doing business the same way we have, and there is plenty of additional revenue there to meet what we feel are our needs,” said Faust.
Board Members were able to give their opinions on the budget. Member Darell Edie said they were able to add to meet contracts and bring on staff, while still remaining flat.
“I would say we are still, once again, very prudently using the funds that we have,” said Edie.
Board President Curt Herrman also added the point of remaining flat will help with the bond issue vote later this year.
The budget will be published in the Manhattan Mercury on Friday and the board will hold a public hearing on August 15th at 6:25 pm.
