Redshirt senior Kylee Zumach turned in a double-double and led a trio of players in double-digit kills as K-State earned a straight-set victory over UMKC Tuesday night at Swinney Recreation Center, 25-20, 25-16, 25-22.
Zumach, who added 10 digs to go with her match-high 14 kills, posted her team-leading fourth double-double of the season. The K-State (9-1) offense hit at a .417 clip and freshman Gloria Mutiri added a dozen kills while junior Elle Sandbothe had 10.
Zumach, Mutiri and Sandbothe each hit better than .390 as the Wildcats turned in a season-best .417 hitting percentage, recording 52 team kills with only nine attacking errors.
Setter Sarah Dixon led the offense as she dished out 46 assists, matching her three-set career high.
The Cats outhit UMKC (7-4) in each set and limited the Kangaroos under .200 in the final two sets in picking up their seventh consecutive win.
Peyton Williams registered five kills on nine swings without an error (.556) and Alyssa Schultejans had seven kills with zero errors on 18 attacks for a .389 hitting efficiency.
K-State tallied 21 kills on 34 swings (.588) in a 25-10 win in Set 1. Mutiri recorded seven kills while Sandbothe and Williams each added four. UMKC closed to within a point at 20-19 but the Cats closed on a 6-1 run that included a trio of kills by Mutiri.
After having to use an early timeout down 5-1 in Set 2, K-State went on a 17-4 spurt that included a string of nine consecutive points. The Cats hit .382 along with picking up 16 kills, led by Zumach who had six kills in the set.
An 8-2 run midway through the final frame propelled the Cats to a straight-set win. K-State tallied five of its six blocks in the set as Dixon, Sandbothe and Macy Flowers each added multiple stuffs. Zumach collected six digs in Game 3.
Mutiri and Devan Fairfield each contributed seven digs. K-State out-blocked the Roos 6-2, limiting UMKC to a .202 efficiency.
UMKC was paced by Alicia Harrington’s nine kills and Rhegan Spiegel with nine digs.
K-State travels to Minneapolis, Minnesota, for the Gopher Fall Classic in its final non-conference matches. The Cats will meet Green Bay on Friday at 7 p.m., before facing off with No. 7 Minnesota Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
