MHS wrestler “Bubba” Wilson signs NLI with Nebraska

Manhattan High school stand out wrestler Clayton “Bubba” Wilson made it official this morning. Bubba signed his national letter of intent to continue his academic and athletic career at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Last year Bubba was the 152lb 6A state champion for the Indians and is the favorite to capture another state title his senior year. As a sophomore he was the state runner-up and was determined not to fall short last year. Through Bubba’s junior year he has compiled a high school career record 110-26 that’s a winning percentage of just over 80%.

Last year Bubba was named the KMAN athlete of the week for his outstanding academic and athletic performance on and off the mat. This year Bubba looks to captain the team and bring back the 6A team tile for Manhattan like they did back in 2017.

Clayton spends most of his year wrestling, from high school season to summer Olympic style (Freestyle/Greco-Roman) season. Last year Bubba was the Kansas State Freestyle and Greco-Roman champion, and represented Kansas on the national level.

Wilson will be joining a Cornhusker squad that is currently 3-0 this season and ranked 12th in the country. Last year, Nebraska finished 10-4 and in 9th place at the NCAA Championships.
