MANHATTAN — Recent food collection efforts for the Flint Hills Breadbasket have brought in a ton, literally, of donations.
The Breadbasket held a Fill the Ambulance event over the past two Saturdays in conjunction with Riley County EMS officials. In addition, food was collected during the Mayor’s Lighted Parade held Dec. 7 in Manhattan. Executive Director Maribeth Kieffer spoke with KMAN on just how much food was collected during this past weekend.

The previous weekend saw the Fill the Ambulance event collect just under 2,500 pounds of food as well. Kieffer says she was amazed and humbled by the people of Manhattan who donated the food because they are so giving.  She also explained her gratitude toward the Riley County EMS.

Kieffer also spoke about some of the other efforts they have been doing this holiday season with holiday baskets.

Kieffer says volunteers are needed for 1 p.m. Sunday to help put the holiday baskets together.
