Manhattan residents have multiple options to ring in the New Year around the Little Apple.
The Little Apple New Years Eve Ball Drop Celebration will once again be in Aggieville, centered around the Rally House where the ball — really an apple — will be dropped. Manhattan Mayor Mike Dodson along with former Kansas State University football team head coach Bill Snyder will be the ceremonial ball droppers for the evening. The event also features live music by M31 at 10 p.m. and fireworks following the ball drop and is free and open to the public.
There will also be a countdown celebration at the Wareham Opera House in Downtown Manhattan. The event features a show by the Mikey Needleman Band and tickets range from $25 to $35. Doors open at 8 p.m., entertainment starts at 8:30 p.m. and at 10 the appetizer and dessert bar opens. Then at midnight, there’s a champagne toast to bring in 2019. They also have a cash bar available.
A more family friendly event is taking place at the Flint Hills Discovery Center. They’re holding their Family New Years Eve Flint Hills Campout. Taking place indoors, the night includes camping-inspired games as well as nature-based crafts in addition to a photo booth and DJ. Then at 8:30 p.m. they have their balloon drop at “kids’ midnight.” The event is currently sold out, but the Discovery Center has a waiting list for those who missed out on a ticket.
