MANHATTAN — Eagle Day, hosted by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Tuttle Creek Lake, has been going on for over 20 years.
Members of the team from the Milford Nature Center were out Saturday giving a presentation and showing off some of the birds from their rehabilitation center. Director Pat Silovasky says getting to share the birds with the community is a major highlight.

The presentation was held in front of a crowded gathering at the Manhattan Fire Department. The Milford Nature Center presented one hawk, a falcon, a vulture, and three different owls.

During the presentation Silovasky described that raptor birds are identified by their curved beaks and talons. Following the presentation, patrons were bused to Tuttle Creek Lake for a day of bird watching. Silovasky says if you were unable to make it to Saturday’s event, don’t worry as another informational event is happening before the end of the month.

Silovasky adds that eagle watching can be done anytime, especially in areas where there is open water. It also helps when the temperature drops.

Saturday’s event was free and open to the public. Milford Nature Center will host an Eagle Day Jan. 26.
