MANHATTAN — The Manhattan Parks & Recreation Department is hoping folks don’t let the winter blues keep them from staying active.

A number of new programs were presented during a recent segment of KMAN’s In Focus. Lindsay Sparlin, Arts and Humanities Coordinator noted a couple of those new programs, including one that begins at the end of January.

Another program beginning this month is called Gym Buddies.

Aquatics and Ice Rink Manager Sidney Baker says the ice rink has been well attended in the first few weeks of winter. She explained that skating lessons are now taking place.

Manhattan Parks & Rec Community Relations Officer Melissa Kirkwood says her department has been busy recently bringing online a new registration software operating system that should improve the way people are able to sign up for programming.

Kirkwood adds that those already with a membership through Parks & Rec have already been integrated into the new system, but says they are asking everyone to re-register to ensure their data is up to date. To find out more, visit mhkprd.com.  New events are already up online, but Kirkwood says registration won’t be available until Jan. 14.
