Riley County Police are actively investigating an armed robbery that occurred Wednesday morning.

RCPD received a call of a robbery at the Dairy Queen on N 3rd Street at approximately 9:50 a.m., according to a release by the department. Officers are still on scene.

The suspect is described as being a male of unknown race, about 5 foot 8 inches tall and weighing about 150 pounds. He reportedly was wearing a grey hoodie, black pants and was carrying a tan Dillons grocery bag and a black handgun.

He fled the scene heading westbound. No injuries were reported, but RCPD set up a perimeter that extends to the area of Bluemont Elementary. The school was put on secure campus status — similar to a lockdown — at the request of RCPD.

If located, do not approach or attempt to apprehend, please contact the Riley County Police Department at (785) 537-2112 or Crime Stoppers at (785) 539-7777. Using the Crime Stoppers service allows you to remain anonymous and could qualify you for a cash reward of up to $1,000.00.
