Original story
MANHATTAN — Travel by ground has been difficult in the Manhattan area and now air travel is also impossible until sometime Wednesday.
Manhattan Regional Airport announced Tuesday evening it is closed due to cancelled flights and winter weather conditions. According to a release from the airport, staff began treating surfaces but ice continued to accumulate. After the snow/ice mix became more prevalent, the airport say visibility became significantly reduced, prompting canceled flights, and bad weather in Chicago which forced the airport to close.
Airport staff will report back to work early Wednesday morning to begin treating the runway and clearing snow and ice. The airport will reopen prior to the next scheduled flight, though the timing is uncertain and will be dependent on weather conditions. Travelers are encouraged to check with the airline for any flight changes, updates and schedule.
