Kansas State running back Mike McCoy announced today that he is medically retiring from football due to lingering injury issues. Despite his retirement, McCoy will remain on scholarship and will be involved with the Wildcat football program in a capacity to be determined.
“I want to thank God, my family, my teammates and fans for all the support throughout my sports career. I love my teammates and all the people I met throughout this journey,” McCoy said. “I also want to thank Coach Klieman and his staff for giving me the opportunity for my next journey. It hurts not being able to play anymore, but I’m going to trust God’s plan that He’ll be with me every step of the way in my new path!”
A product of Topeka, Kansas, McCoy played in three games during his redshirt freshman campaign of 2017, totaling 55 yards on 10 carries. He notched a season-high 33 yards with a 15-yard touchdown against Charlotte, a run in which he ran over a 49er safety on his way to the end zone. He also rushed four times for 14 yards against Central Arkansas and twice for eight yards in the Cactus Bowl win over UCLA.
