    Update 5/1/19

Riley County Police say they have located a juvenile inmate who escaped from a private security company while in transit to court Tuesday.

The 16-year-old has been identified as John Wallace, and was arrested Tuesday evening. He managed to get away during secure transport in the 10 o’clock hour of Tuesday, causing multiple area schools to be place on secure campus status. That was lifted within an hour. Police say he never posed a threat to residents.

Now in custody, Wallace is charged with interference with a law enforcement officer and resisting execution of a warrant. Two adults were also arrested at the same address. Aandre Chilson and Felecia Gomillion were sheltering a runaway and contributing to child misconduct.

    Update

Riley County Police placed some Manhattan schools on a brief lockdown Tuesday after a juvenile inmate escaped custody.

The incident occurred in the 10 o’clock hour near 5th and Fort Riley Blvd. The secure campus period for area schools was lifted within approximately 30 minutes.

The juvenile’s name was not released.

    Originai story

RCPD says the 16-year-old inmate escaped custody near the intersection of 5th and Fort Riley Blvd while being transported to court by Secure Transport in the 10 o’clock hour. This prompted the RCPD to ask schools in the area to go into a secure campus period. All school campuses were released from a secure campus period within approximately 30 minutes.

RCPD says they believe there is no threat to the public.
