K-13 over Tuttle Dam to open Monday

    0
By KMAN Staff on June 7, 2019 Local News, Pottawatomie County, Riley County

Highway K-13 between Riley and Pottawatomie Counties over Tuttle Creek dam will be opening again next week.

The roadway was closed in February 2018 for a project replacing the bridge deck over the spillway structure, it will open again Monday, June 10th.

Pedestrian and non-motorized traffic will be prohibited on or along K-13 as well as between Dyer Road and Tuttle Cove Road due to safety concerns. Parking, stopping, or standing of vehicles along the highway is also not allowed. Parking is also heavily restricted along Dyer, Tuttle Cove and River Pond Roads — violators will be cited.

Parking areas along the highway will be closed upon its reopening to discourage pedestrian traffic. The Army Corps of Engineers directs visitors looking to see the releases to either the Observation Point off of Tuttle Cove Road on the Dam’s west end; The Spillway Overlook off of River Pond Road; The Spillway Cycle area off of Dyer; or Outlet Park off of Tuttle Creek Blvd downstream of the dam.

The Army Corps of Engineers also anticipates the evacuation order for the River Pond Area of the state park to be lifted, though access will be limited by the Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism as they evaluate and address impacts from recent flooding in the area.
