    K-State Falls to Seventh-Ranked BYU

Kansas State wrapped up the non-conference portion of its 2019 schedule on Saturday night at Buser Family Park, as the Wildcats faced seventh-ranked BYU. The Cougars defended their ranking with a 5-0 win over the Wildcats.

Kansas State falls to 2-5-2 on the season, while BYU improves to 8-0-0 and has only surrendered one goal on the season.

“That was a really good team there,” said K-State head coach Mike Dibbini. “I’ve got to give them credit, they’re undefeated and have only given up one goal for a reason, you saw it right there. We tried to match them up and we were down 1-0 at half, which I thought was a positive.

“Once they scored their second goal, then the wheels kind of fell off but we kept trying. A positive is that we got to look at a lot of players that we don’t normally get to look at all year to see how they compete against a top-10 team. It gives us some good feedback. But that was a really good team there, probably the best I’ve seen since we started this program.”

BYU (8-0-0) did not wait long to give themselves the lead. The Cougars scored in the 5th minute, as Cameron Tucker carried the ball for over 30 yards before firing a shot from 23 yards into the lower right corner of the net.

Tucker struck again in the 48th minute to give BYU a 2-0 lead. The Cougars’ Jamie Shepherd played Tucker into the 18-yard box to the right post. Tucker bashed her shot into the left side of the frame from 12 yards out.

Tucker completed her hat trick in the 59th minute. BYU’s Lizzy Braby deflected a cross and the ball landed at Tucker’s feet. She then finished into the open frame.

BYU added goals in the 70th and 85th minutes to cap the scoring.

Kansas State begins Big 12 action on Thursday against defending league champion Baylor at 7 p.m., and Sunday, September 29, against Texas at 1 p.m. Thursday’s match is “Old Town Road” Night. The first 200 K-State students will receive a purple K-State cowboy hat. K-State students can earn points for their Cat Communities and win additional prizes.

Sunday’s match is Fort Riley Day and National Coffee Day. The K-State women’s soccer team will honor the men and women of Fort Riley. All active duty military and veterans can purchase a general admission ticket for $3 at the gate. Also, the first 250 fans to the match will receive a free cup of coffee.
