Agricultural producers are being encouraged to sign up for a 2018 Farm Bill program, which actually accounts for 2019-2023, with the deadline to do so coming up on March 15th.
K-State Research and Extension Agriculture Agent Greg McClure explains the different program choices.
According to McClure, the program each producer should sign up for is dependent on historical base acres.
There are a few differences between this Farm Bill and the previous one.
The first difference is that both the land owner and the tenant must decide on a program as opposed to just the land owner.
McClure says the other difference involves how many times producers must sign up for programs over the next five years.
He says there is also a change in the likelihood that certain programs will pay this time around.
McClure is encouraging producers to have yield data from 2013 to 2017 ready as well as to request a 156 EZ form from the Farm Service Agency before going to a program-selection appointment.
