    Update: RCPD investigating fatal hit and run crash near Leonardville

    Riley County Police are investigating a fatal crash that happened early Friday morning near Leonardville.

    Shortly after 4 a.m. RCPD learned of a man walking, seeming disoriented and asking for a ride near the 12900 block of Barton Road. While en route, a second call reported a man had been found dead in the roadway. That man has been identified as 38-year-old Christopher Day of Leonardville. Police say Day died of head trauma associated with being struck by a vehicle.

    Police are looking for the suspect vehicle and asking the public for help if they saw anyone driving through the area between 4:10 and 4:23 a.m. Friday.

    Anyone with information is asked to call RCPD at 785-537-2112 or Crime Stoppers at 785-539-7777.

    A pedestrian was struck and killed Friday morning near Leonardville.

    The Riley County Police Department reports the accident between a vehicle and pedestrian occurred shortly after 4 a.m. in the 12900 block of Barton Road near the intersection of Crooked Creek Road.

    Few details have been released. Emergency responders from RCPD, Riley County Fire and EMS are on scene.

    The roadway is closed in both directions and motorists are advised to find an alternate route.
