This chart represents test results, by week, for Riley County residents. The graph starts with the 10th week of the year (beginning March 1) and ends with the 31st week (starting July 26). The percentage of positive tests to total test results is an important indicator of how the virus is spreading locally. The percentage of positive cases compared to the total number tested has been declining slightly. Last week, week 31, a total of 285 test results were received, and 8.42% were positive. In week 30, a total of 354 test results were received, and 8.47% were positive. It is important to note that test results take 5-10 days, so the numbers represent swabs collected up to 10 days ago. Just one new coronavirus case was reported over the weekend in Riley County as a downward trend continues in the county’s infection rate.
Riley County Health Department Director Julie Gibbs shared details during Monday’s 7 a.m. COVID-19 update on KMAN.

As of Monday, 107 active cases were being monitored by the health department with 338 recoveries and five total deaths among the 450 total cases reported since March. Four patients were hospitalized Monday with 2 persons under investigation showing symptoms and 140 test results are pending. Pottawatomie County remains at 5 active cases as of Friday, with 104 recovered.

Gibbs says the downward trend is a sign that patrons are heeding the health department’s warnings. She reminds those wanting to host an event with 50 or more people to fill out a request form on the Riley County website.

The health department was scheduled to meet with K-State officials Monday to determine how the university will proceed with athletics for the fall. The Big XII is expected to rule at any time about plans for the college football season. All other Power 5 conferences have already released adjusted plans for their respective schedules.
