Kansas State University is urging students, staff and faculty to stay close to their respective campuses over Labor Day weekend.
The message, which went out to students, staff and faculty at K-State campuses in Manhattan, Salina and Johnson County, is in response to rising COVID-19 case numbers across the state of Kansas.
While most young people who test positive for COVID-19 are experiencing mild symptoms, not traveling around Labor Day is meant to prevent older friends and family and those with weaker immune systems from being exposed to the virus.
K-State published a set of tips from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for those who do decide to attend or host a gathering.
Some of these tips include keeping a list of guests in case contact tracing becomes necessary, hosting the gathering in an outdoor or well-ventilated space, participating in activities that involve social distancing, spacing out tables and chairs and minimizing physical greetings, such as hugs and handshakes.
The CDC also suggests creating a bubble similar to what the NBA has established for the remainder of its season, which involves limiting one’s social interactions to the same group of friends and family.
