Face coverings will be required in Manhattan public spaces through the end of the year.
The Manhattan City Commission approved on second reading an extension of the citywide mask ordinance Tuesday 3-2, as part of the consent agenda. Commissioners made no comment. Commissioners Mark Hatesohl and Wynn Butler both voted no. The passage means the mask ordinance will be in place until Dec. 31.
This date is in cooperation with K-State and USD 383’s face covering requirements and considers potential reimbursements for local businesses. The ordinance can be repealed early or extended depending on the will of the commission.
The city first proposed the ordinance on July 7, following a spike in cases and the Riley County Commission’s decision to opt out of the governor’s face mask mandate.
