No less than eight classrooms at seven daycare facilities have been shut down due to staff members, all of whom are 18 to 24-years old, testing positive for COVID-19.

Some of the daycare facilities have decided to close completely. Each classroom holds about 10 children and close contacts of the children and staff members will have to complete 14-day quarantines.

Children who are close contacts to this situation are not allowed to be admitted to other daycare facilities until  after the completion of their quarantine.

Three patients are being monitored at Ascension Via Christi and two additional outbreaks have been declared in Riley County, including one at Homestead Assisted Living Facility, where and the Theta Xi fraternity

Event permits for all Greek houses where outbreaks have been declared have been revoked and no new permits will be issued through September. Those living in outbreak locations should complete a quarantine period and should not go to work, participate in social activities or attend in-person classes.
“It is no longer deemed safe for Greek houses to host events and they may not take place,” said Local Health Officer Julie Gibbs. “Reducing the exposure opportunities from social contact is imperative for the 18-24 age group.”
