Riley County added 121 new coronavirus cases over Labor Day weekend and saw 72 more recoveries.
A total of 95 of those cases (79%) are between the ages of 18 and 24. Four positive patients are receiving care at Ascension Via Christi, one of which is currently on a ventilator. Local numbers climbed to 728 active cases as of Tuesday, with 561 now listed as recovered and six deaths.
There are also 183 pending tests and well over 7,500 negative tests confirmed. In addition, 15 active outbreaks are now confirmed in Riley County, involving four K-State fraternities, eight sororities, Homestead Assisted Living, K-State football and USD 384 administration.
Pottawatomie County saw its number of active cases drop by three, bringing the total number of active cases to 16, recoveries to 160 and pending test results to six.
There will be free COVID-19 testing Wednesday in Manhattan, but the morning test site is being moved from the mall parking lot to Pottorf Hall in Cico Park due to weather. It will still take place from 7 to 10 a.m. Participants will drive through the barn north of Pottorf Hall to get swabbed and volunteers will place the donated food in the trunk of the car.
Alternative sites for Leonardville Wednesday and Ogden Thursday will be announced if necessary. Currently they are planned from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in Leonardville at 401 West Chase Street and at the Ogden Community Center Thursday from 7 to 9 a.m., 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m.
