The Kansas Bureau of Investigation has released more information about an early Wednesday officer-involved shooting in Junction City.
Preliminary information indicates that officers from the Junction City Police Department and Geary County Sheriff’s Office responded to a domestic disturbance call at 425 West 2nd Street shortly before 3 a.m. A female resident of the home was able to escape safely. Officers then attempted to contact the armed male suspect, later identified as 70-year-old James Marsh. According to KBI, when he exited the home at around 3:20 a.m., Marsh was holding a shotgun and fired shots at police. One sheriff’s deputy and one police officer returned fire, striking Marsh.
No law enforcment officers were injured. Marsh was treated by EMS at the scene and transported to Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka where he underwent surgery. He is listed in fair condition.
KBI plans to complete a thorough and independent investigation into the shooting. Once completed, it will be turned over to the Geary County Attorney for review.
The investigation is ongoing and KBI says no further information is being released at this time.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation has launched an investigation into a shooting early Wednesday morning involving a deputy from the Geary County Sheriff’s Office and a male subject.
According to KBI spokeswoman Melissa Underwood, the incident occurred at around 2:45 a.m. in the 400 block of West 2nd Street in Junction City. The deputy was providing assistance to Junction City Police on a call for service. No law enforcement officers were injured. The male subject was shot and transported to a Topeka hospital for treatment. His condition is unknown. KBI has not released his name.
Further details are pending and KBI is planning a news release later Wednesday.
