Animal cruelty is suspected after the partial remains of a missing SIamese cat were found Wednesday in Manhattan.

The remains were brought to the T. Russel Reitz Animal Shelter and examined by Kansas State University veterinarians. A necropsy was performed to investigate the cause of death which was not conclusive but animal cruelty is suspected.

The cat’s owner, Bailey Jean Griffin reported the cat missing earlier in the day and in a Facebook post Thursday stated a woman found the cat’s partial body in an alleyway between Yuma Street and Colorado Street. Only the top half of the 8-year-old cat, named PJ, was located. Griffin says veterinarians determined the cat sustained blunt force trauma to the head and was cut in half by the blade of a knife.

The incident reportedly took place sometime between 4:30 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. Wednesday.

Animal Control and the Riley County Police Department are actively patrolling the area. Anyone who has information about the incident is urged to contact Riley County Animal Control at (785) 537-2112.

Griffin is additionally offering a $3,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible. The photos above are from a public post by Griffin on Facebook.
