WICHITA, Kan. — Wichita police say a 14-year-old boy has been injured in a shooting, and investigators have taken another teen suspected of pulling the trigger into custody.
Police say the shooting happened around 7 p.m. Wednesday in a home in northeast Wichita. Arriving first responders found the 14-year-old with a gunshot wound to his chest. Police say in a news release Thursday that the boy, whose name has not been released, was taken to a hospital with a serious injury that was not believed to be life-threatening.
Police say they believe the shooting was accidental, but note that a lack of cooperation with police has hampered the investigation.
