Manhattan-Ogden school board member Karla Hagemeister has announced she will seek another term on the board.
Hagemeister confirmed the announcement during Wednesday’s school board meeting, talking about her time on the board thus far.
“I won’t say I’ve enjoyed every single minute of it but I have grown from every single minute of it and appreciated it much like having children. There are times you think you’ll never do this again and there are times that you say this was a really good decision. I’ve definitely grown a lot from this board service and I hope to continue to do that,” she said.
Hagemeister was elected to the school board in 2017. She served as school board president last year, during the start of the coronavirus pandemic.
“I could not have imagined the challenges our district has faced during my service, especially in 2020,” Hagemeister said. “I have never stopped being amazed by what the teachers, staff, administrators, students and families have accomplished during extremely difficult circumstances.”
Hagemeister. a victim/witness coordinator for the Riley County Attorney’s Office and fellow board members Jurdene Coleman and Katrina Lewison all have terms expiring this year. Neither of the other two board members have announced their intentions.
Former Manhattan city commissioner and Thrive! Flint Hills Executive Director Jayme Morris-Hardeman filed for a position on the board April 21.
The filing deadline for candidates is June 1. The general election is Nov. 2.
