USD 383 will receive over $3.2 million in federal funds during the second round of Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief funding and $7.5 million in the third round.

Director of Business Services Lew Faust presented an overview to the school board Wednesday night on how the district intends to spend some of those funds, including the addition of classroom aides and paraprofessionals.

By statute, the funds must be utilized to “prevent, prepare for and respond to the coronavirus.” Faust says $170,000 is also being allotted to supplement the Job Corps program next year and $50,000 the following year.

Disbursement of those funds are being spread out over the next two school year budget cycles. Funds for the second round of ESSER funds must be accounted for by the end of September in 2022 — and in 2023 for round three funds.
