One week remains until the deadline to register for the August 3 primary.
July 13 is the deadline to do that. Voting by mail and advance voting begin on July 14, wrapping up at noon on Monday, Aug. 2. Advance voting at the Riley County Office Building will be offered weekdays from 8 to 5 p.m. beginning on the 14th as well as Saturday, July 31 from 8 a.m. to noon.
Nine candidates are vying for three seats on the USD 383 school board. They include incumbent board member Karla Hagemeister, Jennifer Chua, Kevin Harms, Betty Mattingly-Ebert, Jayme Morris-Hardeman, Teresa Parks, Steven Ruzzin, Carl Treece and Christine Weixelman. A 10th candidate, Bill Spiegel withdrew from the race last week.
The candidates will take part in a 5:30 p.m. forum Thursday at Pottorf Hall in CiCo Park, hosted by the Riley County Republicans.
KMAN will feature interviews with each of the candidates on air and online throughout the month of July, once advance voting gets underway.
In addition, nine candidates are running for three seats on the Manhattan City Commission. They include incumbents Wynn Butler, Aaron Estabrook and Usha Reddi as well as Kaleb James, Rich Jankovich, Marcus Kidd, Monica Macfarlane, former city commissioner John Matta and Joseph McGraw. All of the city candidates will be on the general election ballot.
