Local candidates are taking part in a pair of virtual forums this weekend put on by the League of Women Voters of Manhattan/Riley County.

Both forums are airing on News Radio KMAN, beginning at 1:30 p.m. Sunday. The event will also stream via Facebook live on the KMAN Facebook page.

The six USD 383 school board candidates will participate first, followed by the candidates in the Manhattan City Commission race. The city candidate forum will start at approximately 3 p.m. Nine candidates will appear on the ballot, eight of which are participating in Sunday’s forum.

Candidates will each have time for opening and closing statements and will answer five total questions in each forum.

The event is cosponsored by the local chapter of the American Association of University Women and the Manhattan Area Chamber of Commerce.

USD 383 candidates attending Sunday’s forum include incumbent school board member Karla Hagemeister as well as Betty Mattingly-Ebert, Jayme Morris-Hardeman, Teresa Parks, Steven Ruzzin and Christine Weixelman.

City commission candidates attending Sunday’s forum include incumbents Wynn Butler, Aaron Estabrook and Usha Reddi as well as challengers Marcus Kidd, Kaleb James, Rich Jankovich, Monica Macfarlane and John Matta. Joseph McGraw is not participating as he has reportedly suspended his campaign.
