With no K-State football this weekend, there are still plenty of events to keep people busy in the Little Apple and surrounding communities.

The 47th annual Pumpkin Patch Arts & Crafts Fair opens 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at CiCo Park.

Saturday is loaded with community events from the chili crawl in Aggieville to Flint Hills Beer Fest in Blue Earth Plaza and the Little Apple Marathon at Tuttle Creek State Park and a free family movie night at City Park beginning at 5 p.m.

Open houses are being at two school facilities in the area this weekend.

USD 378 Riley County Schools will hold an official grand opening Saturday at the grade school and high school following recent renovations from its most recent bond project. Superintendent Cliff Williams says the open house runs from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

School officials are also planning an official ribbon cutting and tours of the new Junction City High School Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. USD 475 Superintendent Dr. Reginald Eggleston spoke recently to KMAN about the upcoming event.

The district is planning to host several speakers from the local and state level at Saturday’s event. The list includes:

  • Superintendent Eggleston
  • Board of Education President Dr. Anwar Khoury
  • Fort Riley Garrison Commander Colonel William McKannay
  • State Senator Tom Hawk
  • U.S. Senator Roger Marshall
  • Kansas Department of Commerce Executive Director Retired Lt. Gen Perry Wiggins
  • Principal Merrier Jackson

On Sunday, the Manhattan Fire Department will cap off fire prevention week this Sunday with its annual open house.

Fire Marshal Jake Powell says activities will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the department’s headquarters at 2000 Denison Ave.

The annual event drew over 500 people in 2019, and was held virtually last year.
