    The following summary of calls for service/reports filed by the Riley County Police Department is a portion of those received by police. Some names, addresses, and case details are withheld to follow local, state, and federal law as well as in an attempt to protect community members from being victimized further. Those arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

    MANHATTAN, KAN. – 

    Officers responded to the report of a medical call in the 2300 block of Willow Ln. in Manhattan on October 18, 2021, around 9:01 a.m. When officers arrived on scene, they found a deceased 54-year-old female. No foul play is suspected at this time.

    Officers filed a report for rape in Manhattan on October 18, 2021, around 9:05 a.m. Officers listed a 34-year-old female as the victim and a 31-year-old male known to her as the suspect. Due to the nature of this crime, no further information will be released.

    Officers filed a report for aggravated arson and criminal use of explosives in the 1200 block of Moro St. in Manhattan on October 18, 2021, around 1:30 p.m. Officers listed O’Malley’s Alley and a 31-year-old female as the victims when it was reported a 36-year-old male suspect threw what is commonly known as a Molotov cocktail at the building. No injuries were reported. The total estimated loss associated with this case is approximately $950. Matthew Spooner, 36, of Manhattan was arrested in connection.

    Officers filed a report for aggravated arson and criminal use of explosives in the 1100 block of Laramie St. in Manhattan on October 18, 2021, around 7:45 p.m. Officers listed a 55-year-old male as the victim when it was reported a 36-year-old male suspect threw what is commonly known as a Molotov cocktail at a building. No injuries were reported. The total estimated loss associated with this case is approximately $100. Matthew Spooner, 36, of Manhattan was arrested in connection.
