Manhattan Fire Department responded to two small house fires on Monday.

MFD responded to the 2900 block of Hickory lane around 2:45 pm for a report of a mower on fire spreading to the house. Upon arrival, crews found the mower on fire under a deck.

The fire was contained within 10 minutes and smoke was ventilated from the home. A total of 17 firefighters responded on 6 fire apparatus. No injuries were reported.

The building is a single-story single-family home. Loss is estimated at $4,000 to the structure and $1,200 to the riding mower. The owner is listed as the C. Lewis Cocke Trust and the Enid Obee Cocke Trust of the same address. The fire cause is accidental due to the mower catching fire from dry leaves.

While on scene at this incident, crews responded to the 700 block Frey Drive for a reported structure fire. Upon arrival, crews found a fire on the back of the attached garage that had been partially extinguished by a Riley County Police Officer. The fire was extinguished within five minutes. A total of 16 firefighters responded. No injuries were reported.

The building is a single-story single-family home. Loss is estimated at $1,000 to the structure and $50 to contents. The owner is listed as the Ronald and Verna Robinson Trust of Manhattan. The fire cause is accidental due to improperly disposed of smoking materials.
