Wamego will be without its starting quarterback for at least the first five games of the season.
Wamego senior quarterback Hayden Oviatt was scheduled to have foot surgery yesterday, ruling him out of competition for the next six weeks.
Oviatt, who committed to Army on the 4th of July, fractured a bone on the outside of his foot in a non-contact play while scrambling during practice.
Oviatt said to KSNT, “I felt a sharp pain when I made a cut, I dropped on the ground.”
Senior wide receiver Colin Donahue has been taking reps at quarterback in Oviatt’s absence.
Wamego opens its season September 2 hosting Clay Center.
