    The following summary of calls for service/reports filed by the Riley County Police Department is a portion of those received by police. Some names, addresses, and case details are withheld to follow local, state, and federal law and in an attempt to protect community members from being victimized further. Those arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

    MANHATTAN, KAN. – 

    Officers filed a report for aggravated battery and interference with LEO in the 1000 block of Sunset Ave. in Manhattan on February 2, 2023, around 5:00 a.m. A 24-year-old man was listed as the victim when it was reported a 36-year-old man known to him punched him multiple times in the face during an argument causing multiple facial and head lacerations. The victim was treated at Via Christi before being transferred to KU Medical Center in Kansas City for further treatment but is in stable condition. Henry Lige III, 36, of Manhattan was arrested for aggravated battery and interference with LEO after he barricaded himself in his residence for a short time when officers advised him he was under arrest. Lige was issued a total bond of $17,000 and is no longer confined at the time of this report.

    Officers filed a report for theft and criminal damage to property in the 1300 block of Laramie St. in Aggieville, Manhattan on February 2, 2023, around 8:15 a.m. The City of Manhattan was listed as the victim when it was reported a group of people stole two signs and damaged another sign and wall in the Aggieville Parking Garage. The estimated total loss associated with this case is approximately $1,700. One sign was recovered and one of the people involved Ella Maholland, 20, of Manhattan was identified and issued a notice to appear in court for theft.

    Officers filed a report for aggravated battery, domestic battery, and abuse of a child in Manhattan on February 2, 2023, around 10:00 p.m. after it was reported a 44-year-old man hit a 40-year-old woman and strangled a juvenile female with other juveniles present, all known to the suspect. Marshall Hawkinson, 44, of Manhattan was arrested in connection for aggravated battery, domestic battery, and abuse of a child. The victims did not require medical treatment. Hawkinson remains confined in the Riley County Jail with a total bond of $75,000. *See updated Arrest Report attached. The automatic report originally stated an incorrect bond of $150,000.
