    The following summary of calls for service/reports filed by the Riley County Police Department is a portion of those received by police. Some names, addresses, and case details are withheld to follow local, state, and federal law and in an attempt to protect community members from being victimized further. Those arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

    MANHATTAN, KAN. – 

    Jason Lucas, 16, of Manhattan was arrested in the 2300 block of Oak St. in Manhattan on February 8, 2023, around 10:00 a.m. for possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of an electronic cigarette by a minor after he was found in his vehicle in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. He was also arrested for aggravated arson in connection to a November 28, 2022, incident at Manhattan High School where it was reported he set a bathroom soap dispenser on fire during school hours. Lucas was transported to the North Central Kansas Regional Juvenile Detention Facility in Junction City.

    Officers filed a report for theft in the 800 block of Laramie St. in Manhattan on February 8, 2023, around 11:15 a.m. A 21-year-old man was listed as the victim when he reported his 1985 green Yamaha QT50 moped was stolen from an unattached, unlocked garage of his residence. The estimated total loss associated with this case is approximately $1,000. Anyone with information can contact RCPD or the Manhattan Riley County Crime Stoppers. Using the Crime Stoppers service can allow you to remain anonymous and could qualify you for a cash reward of up to $1,000.
