The Manhattan Area Chamber of Commerce has announced its new leader of Manhattan’s military relations program.

Christian Bishop will take over that role in April, serving as the military liaison between the Manhattan region and Fort Riley. She succeeds Janet Nichols, who left the Chamber in December to become Director of Public Affairs and Community Outreach for the Kansas Commission on Veterans Affairs.

Bishop, a K-State graduate, has been involved with engagement between Fort Riley and the Flint Hills for nearly 15 years and currently serves as Outreach Services Director for Child and Youth Services at Fort Riley.

Bishop previously spent three years as a Protocol Specialist in the 1st Infantry Division Headquarters as the lead planner and coordinator for a variety of functions involving community and Fort Riley leadership. She began her career as the Child Development Director at Fort Riley in Child and Youth Services.

The Chamber’s military relations program is a joint venture between the City of Manhattan, Riley County, the Little Apple Brigade and private business investment through the Chamber’s economic development program, Advantage Manhattan.
