The Riley County Health Department and Flint Hills Wellness Coalition launched a new pilot program today to assess housing quality in the Aggieville and City Park areas.
Volunteers will be seen walking around these neighborhoods recording information on housing conditions such as visible roof damage, debris on properties, peeling paint and other issues that impact the livability of homes.
Additional notes will be taken for neighborhood conditions like sidewalk damage, trees overhanging pathways and trash in public areas.
Volunteers will be easily distinguishable by wearing shirts with the Health Department logo or distinctive FHWC buttons. They will remain on public property and will not knock on doors or enter private property.
Results will be shared with Manhattan’s Community Development Department to help address housing needs, particularly workforce housing. Assessments are expected to be completed by the end of August.
