Fort Riley will conduct an energy resilience readiness exercise on July 26.
Black Start is a mandated power outage designed to test the installation’s emergency response. The exercise will happen between 4 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobilization and Security Clay Nauman says the exercise provides an opportunity to make sure all the systems are working correctly.
Nauman also indicates that this exercise is important to assess the military base’s response plan.
Fort Riley Utilities Branch Chief Larry Graham says the power outage will mainly test the substation emergency generation.
In addition, Graham says the blackout will serve as a guideline for what needs to be done or improved in case of emergency.
