Kansas State starting quarterback Will Howard is one of three players who announced Monday that they will be putting their names in the transfer portal, meaning his career at the school is over.
Also announcing Monday were running back Treshaun Ward and third string quarterback Jake Rubley.
Howard’s announcement comes two days after he dropped hints that Saturday’s loss to Iowa State would be his final game in a K-State uniform. In comments following the game, Howard thanked media members and the larger community for their support during his time in Manhattan.
He leaves having been the starter for every game this season after being pressed into duty as the starter partway through the 2022 Big 12 Championship run. In his four season run at K-State, he played in 34 games, starting 27 of them.
Howard completed 59 percent of his passes while throwing for close to 5,800 yards and 48 touchdowns in his career and will have one year of eligibility available to him. He leaves as the leader in career touchdown passes and tied the single season record in Saturday’s contest when he hit Ben Sinnott with 15 seconds to play before halftime.
Ward came to Kansas State after four seasons at Florida State and has a “COVID year” yet to play. He ran for 643 yards and five touchdowns on 124 carries this season. At Florida State, he had put up 13 touchdowns and was an Honorable Mention All-Atlantic Coast Conference performer in 2022.
Rubley leaves the program after appearing in a total of six games over the past two seasons, only two in 2023. He was one of the programs highest rated recruits coming out of Highlands Ranch, CO, He has two years of eligibility remaining.
